Manchester United return to Premier League action for the first time since their historic defeat to Liverpool when they host Southampton this weekend.

Erik ten Hag named the same starting XI that lost 7-0 to their rivals on Sunday – the Red Devils’ heaviest Premier League defeat ever  – for the Europa League clash in midweek.

And United provided an instant response to all-but secure their passage into the quarter-finals after a 4-1 win against the LaLiga side.

The Carabao Cup winners will now look to continue building momentum once again with the visit of struggling Southampton.

Why is Man United vs Southampton not on TV?

This game will not be shown on TV this weekend due to the original fixture taking place in the 3pm blackout slot for English football.

However, the match was rearranged last month following United’s progression into the Europa League last-16 due to their win over Barcelona.

And now that United played in Europe on Thursday night, rules dictate their Premier League commitments be pushed back by almost 24 hours to give the squad extra recovery time.

While the match may not be available to watch, talkSPORT will have you covered with live updates throughout the afternoon.

Fernandes couldn’t hide his delight after giving United the lead against Southampton

United sealed a 1-0 win over Southampton thanks to a Bruno Fernandes volley when the two sides met in August.

And his manager Ten Hag was quick to heap praise on Fernandes after he found the net once again in the victory over Betis.

“He was the best player on the pitch and it showed his personality. He played in a little bit of a deeper role tonight, he was brilliant,” said Ten Hag.

“He was a leader in playmaking from deep and controlling the rhythm of the game. He had a lot of good passes in between the lines and from there-on we created a lot of chances.”

Ten Hag added to BT Sport: “He led the team from the first minute by his game, with possession, make the rhythm of the game and score a goal so I’m happy.”

The Saints meanwhile have struggled since the last time they faced United but the club did move off the bottom of the table after beating Leicester last time out.
