Walker-Peters made a strong but fair challenge on Garnacho

United boss Erik ten Hag substituted Garnacho on for Jadon Sancho in the 73rd minute as they searched for a goal against the Saints.

He was quickly involved in the action as he battled with Walker-Peters inside the box, with the latter making a fair challenge on him.

However, Garnacho went down injured and could be seen in a lot of pain and despite continuing, he was taken off in stoppage time.

Following the game, Press Association reporter Simon Peach tweeted a picture of the youngster leaving on crutches.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury may be, although Ten Hag is reported to have said it ‘doesn’t look too bad.’

Garnacho’s knock will undoubtedly frustrate him amid his impressive season for the club, having scored four goals and assisted five to date.

It also adds to a disappointing afternoon for United, who went down to ten men in the first half after Casemiro was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Carlos Alcaraz.

His dismissal certainly didn’t help the hosts’ efforts for the rest of the match, with the Saints able to hold onto a crucial point.

Both sides hit the woodwork in the second half but the score remained goalless in an entertaining affair.

The result still leaves Southampton bottom of the Premier League table, with United maintaining their third place spot.
